Bui : Senator Targets Specific Needs

Targeted interventions addressing the practical priorities of communities across Bui Division continue to define the outreach of Senator Emma Lafon, CPDM Senator for Bui in the North West Region, with agriculture and education at the centre of her recent engagements.

On 24 March, during CPDM anniversary celebrations in Kumbo, Senator Lafon donated a consignment of farming equipment — cutlasses, hoes, spades and watering cans — to farmers in Kumbo Central Subdivision, easing a burden many producers face in replacing worn-out tools amid rising costs.

The gesture was repeated on 20 May, National Day, when farming communities in Tatum, Mbven Subdivision, received similar support, followed later the same day by a further distribution in Jakiri Subdivision — extending the initiative’s reach across the division’s farming households.

Speaking from Yaoundé, Senator Lafon acknowledged that the security situation in the North West has made reaching residents an uphill task, but said that was no reason to hold back. “We are having a difficult situation of security back home. Getting these donations to meet the population is a Herculean challenge. But we cannot fold our arms and wait for security to be at its best. Our people need assistance. We want to stand with them during difficult times,” she said. “Encouraging farming by easing the process with tools, and also assisting children to attend school, is my priority. We will continue to assist.”

Agriculture remains the principal livelihood for most of Bui’s population, and the tools mark a modest but concrete contribution to expanding cultivation and sustaining food production.

Senator Lafon’s focus has also extended to education. At the start of the 2025/2026 academic year, she donated exercise books, library materials, teachers’ chairs and classroom benches to schools Oku, another subdivision of Bui, addressing furniture and resource shortages that often constrain teaching and learning.

Together, the donations reflect a needs-driven approach to representation — one that channels support directly into the sectors shaping livelihoods and human capital in Bui Division despite the security constraints she describes.
