Infrastructure, agriculture, renewable energy and health featured in discussions between the Speaker of the National Assembly Hon. Datouo Theodore and Ambassador Ibrahim Al-Ghamedi.
The meeting comes as cooperation between the two countries continues to gather steam. Through the Saudi Fund for Development, Saudi Arabia has supported a number of projects in Cameroon, including health, transport and water infrastructure. Earlier this year, the Fund approved financing for the rehabilitation of the Sorawel–Dourbeye road corridor, a project expected to facilitate trade and improve regional connectivity.
During the audience, Ambassador Al-Ghamedi congratulated the Hon. Theodore Datouo on his election as Speaker of the National Assembly and reaffirmed his country’s commitment to further strengthening bilateral relations with Cameroon.
Discussions centred on expanding cooperation in sectors considered critical to Cameroon’s economic transformation, notably agriculture, renewable energy, mining, infrastructure and health. Both parties agreed that stronger legislative engagement could complement government action by facilitating dialogue and supporting initiatives that promote sustainable development.
One of the major outcomes of the meeting was the announcement of a forthcoming visit by members of the Cameroon–Saudi Arabia Parliamentary Friendship Group to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia before the end of the year. The visit is expected to reinforce exchanges between the two legislatures and open new avenues for cooperation. The audience also highlighted the role of the private sector in strengthening bilateral relations. Saudi investors were invited to explore business opportunities in Cameroon, particularly in sectors where the country is seeking greater foreign investment and technical expertise.
Both sides committed to promoting peace, sustainable development and mutually beneficial cooperation, underscoring the shared desire to elevate relations between Yaoundé and Riyadh to a new level.
