Increasingly, residents in the Andeck council area under the leadership of Barrister Umenjoh Felix go out to fix bad portions of their roads as a way to strengthen peace and promote development.
Placed under the theme “What binds us together makes us stronger and more united” they have been working together to promote peace, rehabilitation and development of their council area. This is a call made by Barrister Umenjoh Felix, safety net field worker for Andeck council area. According to him, “community work provides an opportunity for the people to come together, strengthen their bonds and contribute to the recovery of their communities”. The initiative also places emphasis on the future of children and young people. Parents are encouraged to ensure that children attend school or acquire practical skills and trades that can enable them to become self-reliant.
Barrister Umenjoh’s community sensitization program further encourages parents to obtain birth certificates for their children and ensure that eligible citizens acquire national identity cards and register on the electoral roll to participate in local elections.
The promoter emphasizes that they come out every week on specific days to work for their community. As he puts it, “work on some bad portions of roads and the education of the people on their civic rights and responsibilities constitute parts of our activities”. This initiative seeks to promote a culture of collective responsibility, where locals contribute their time and effort towards improving their communities.
Barrister Umenjoh is thus demonstration a truth that, through community led efforts, Andeck residents can put their differences aside and rebuild their community together.
