Renouvellement 2021

North-west : So Far, So Good!

The first phase of the renewal of basic organs of the CPDM in the North West Region has ended without an incident.

Launching of the exercise from the region down to the council areas, explanation of texts and guidelines, and clarification of misunderstandings; was the quintessence of the first phase. The next, L’Action learnt, will be operational. The North West Region launched the process on August 14, 2021, in Bamenda at the regional level. Divisions followed after the regional launching, and on Tuesday August 17, 2021, the exercise was launched at the council area.
During the regional launching, the Head of the Permanent Regional Delegation Yang Philemon, in charge of the process in the North West, prescribed FairPlay. He urged those involved in the process [committees] to strictly respect the Circular of the national President Paul Biya and the application text of the Secretary General of the central Committee Jean Nkuété. Yang Philemon insisted on doing everything by the book. He said accurate implementation of the rules will guarantee a desired outcome. That of competent leadership of the CPDM at the grassroots, capable of helping the party to win future popular elections, stay in power, and consolidate its place as the leading party in the region.
In the 2020 municipal and legislative elections, the party lost only a seat and council to the opposition. The CPDM wants to keep this record after years of battling with the Social Democratic Front; a onetime strong opposition party that had North West region as its base. The CPDM failed to win the 2019 senatorial elections, and wants to win in 2023. But the Party gave its champion, Paul Biya, a big win at the 2018 Presidential Election. These elections took place as the crisis rocked the region.
The renewal of the basic organs of the CPDM will take place in the “present atmosphere of insecurity” and “every step is important. The reorganization of the party is going to give more confidence to people,” Yang Philemon said. The new leaders of the Party have a new daunting task of fighting for the return of peace. “We need diehard militants. Who will sensitize against the terrorism that is raging in the North West and South West regions”, the former Section President of Mezam II, Santa, said.
