While President Paul Biya was officially represented by PM Joseph Dion Ngute, a committed militant of the ruling party the CPDM made it a duty to make history not only for Cameroon but the CPDM as well.
May 6 2023 was a rainy and cold day in London but the smile on Dr. Elvis Mbwoge’s face brought warmth in the hearts of passers-by who easily recognised the effigy of President Paul Biya on the party uniform he was wearing. The North East London Subsection President braved the poor weather to be amongst the thousands who turned out to witness the coronation of one whose love for humanity needs not be emphasized, King Charles III. Dr. Elvis Mbwoge joined his voice to others to chant “God save the king”. This act spoke volumes of his loyalty not only towards his host country Britain but his fatherland Cameroon, which today enjoys fruitful ties with the monarchy thanks to its belonging to the Common Wealth, popularly known as the Gentlemen’s club.
Knowing the long-standing relationship between King Charles III and President Paul Biya, militants of the UK Section understood that the coronation would be an opportunity to show their unalloyed support to the National President Paul Biya, expected at the event. Despite the change in program which saw Paul Biya being represented by the Head of Government, Prime Minister Joseph Dion Ngute, Elvis Mbwoge, North East Subsection president still made it a duty to mark history by his very presence at the event grounds.
To him, “militants here wanted the president of our national party to know that we are here and support him in his visionary plans for our nation, Cameroon. Under the watchful eyes of Grace Elone, our Section President, militants of the CPDM were mobilised to turn out in their numbers but there was a change of programs”. This nonetheless did not dampen the North East London Subsection president’s spirit because he had travelled from Cameroon to London to reserve a hilarious welcome to the Cameroon delegation to the coronation. And so it came to pass, that amongst those who made history in London, was a fervent militant of the CPDM, who saw King Charles and Paul Biya as emblematic figures for their people by their commitment towards their wellbeing. “We are here as friends of Britain. President Paul Biya is a friend of King Charles III. Down history lane, King Charles III came to Cameroon some years back and the relationship between the two countries is further sealed through the Gentlemen’s club, the Common Wealth to which Cameroon is a member” Dr. Elvis Mbwoge said.
In a story depicting characters that lay down their lives for the good of their people, President Paul Biya of Cameroon and King Charles III of England doubtlessly suit the key players.
