2025 Presidential Elections : No to Political Gamesmanship

As Cameroonians buckle up for elections build for this year, some law makers and people’s representatives are on the watch out, guarding against misleading facts.

Hon. Ateawung Foju Bernard, Member of Parliament for the Lebialem constituency in the South West Region, recently accused opposition MPs for politicizing the debate on the 2025 draft finance bill at the national assembly by using it as a platform for presidential campaign rhetoric.

He made his point recently at the national assembly as they scrutinized the 2025 draft bill.  Hon. Foju   criticized his MP colleagues from the opposition, calling on them to cease from using the 2025 Draft Bill to stage a Presidential Campaign Outing at the assembly. He maintained that his colleagues must not stray from the bill’s technical aspects, which according to him “holds immense value for Cameroon’s development”. Hon. Foju stood his grounds that debates at the assembly are not political campaign rallies. According to him, “the public deserves clarity and honesty, not political gamesmanship,”, he said emphatically.

After the heated debate, the 2025 draft finance bill was adopted, a move Hon. Foju hailed as a major victory. He then commended the budget for its alignment with national frameworks, including the National Development Strategy 2020-2030 (NDS30), the 2018 Financial Regime of the State, the Budget Orientation Table, and the Current Presidential Circular.

Hon. FOJU described the program-based budget as “the best in many years,” emphasizing its realistic risk analysis and readiness to address unforeseen challenges. He also insisted that opposition MPs must quit misleading the public, urging them to focus on constructive dialogue.

“The adopted budget is a robust tool for meeting our economic, social, and political priorities, and I am confident it will drive significant progress in 2025,” Hon. Foju highlighted.

It is hoped that he and other CPDM MPS like him will continue to truly represent the party interest at the assembly, ensuring that the general public comes first in all decisions. The need to uphold the values of truth which the CPDM stands for notwithstanding.
