The President emphasized that security remains a prerequisite for economic and social progress, “Security, which is a prerequisite for economic and social progress, has been and remains our core priority,” he stated declaring it the government’s core priority. Despite ongoing threats from terrorist groups such as Boko Haram, President Biya asserted that significant strides had been made in restoring stability. He cited improved military operations as pivotal in curbing the terrorists’ destructive capabilities.
With the elections looming on the horizon, Paul Biya’s address took on an additional layer of significance. He framed the elections as vital milestones in Cameroon’s democratic journey, urging all stakeholders to prioritize peace and stability. “Let us take this opportunity to further strengthen our democracy.” This call for unity reflects an understanding of the critical role that collective responsibility plays in maintaining political stability.
The President’s recognition of challenges faced by citizens in accessing the electoral register highlights a critical area for reform. “I am fully aware that some of our compatriots continue to face challenges in enrolling,” he acknowledged. He pledged that measures would be implemented to streamline registration and encourage broader participation.
