Widikum : Reconciliation Rebrands Community

Here, the population, coached by CPDM elite of this sub-division in Momo Division of the North West Region, has turned a new page, embracing peace as the way forward, thanks to the Senator Enwe Francisled initiative.

This was during a ground-breaking peace and reconciliation event that took place from 7 to 9 August in Widikum. It was organised by local authorities of the CPDM in Momo, championed by Senator Enwe Francis Abi, a son of the area. Unique in its kind, the event recorded a resounding success, graced by a large crowd gathered for the peace initiative. The local population, together with the stakeholders, expressed their strong desire to re-establish, pursue and maintain peace, love and fruitful cohabitation amongst themselves for the common good.

At the capacity-building seminar, which focused on conflict resolution, psychosocial healing, and humanitarian action, participants were educated on the virtues of a peaceful society. They, as victims of the crisis, expressed immense gratitude to the organisers of the training and for the support.

This culminated in a grand finale on 9 August 2025, with an ecumenical church service and prayers at the Presbyterian Field, Widikum, said by a college of clergy. They gifted Senator Enwe Francis a Bible, instructing him to use it as his “battle axe” as he carries on with his God-given peace mission in Widikum, its environs, and in Momo Division. Prayers were also offered for the total healing of broken hearts, especially in families that had lost loved ones in the conflict. Many came carrying pictures of their dead, eyes full of tears, but were prayerfully encouraged to forgive, forget, and embrace peace — even with their enemies of yesterday. Following his persistence for those of the boys in the buses to come out as instructed by the Head of State, Eight (8) more who dropped their weapons were handed to the administration.

Meanwhile, traditional (fons) of Widikum performed traditional rites, understood as a way to cleanse the land and rid it of any bloodshed ever again. Here, Senator Enwe has been instrumental in the development and growth of the youth in Widikum. The National Youth Council was on hand and presented him with a gift of appreciation for his good works. The icing on the cake was Senator Enwe’s grand gesture of re-empowerment to some forty-five youths to whom he offered motorbikes for free. Those whose commercial motorbikes had either been stolen, burnt, or seized were carefully selected before the event, on the instructions of the Senator, for the gifts. Each received a brand-new motorcycle, a token of love from the Senator. He gave them a strong call for the judicious use of the motorbikes, which he said should serve the beneficiaries to restart life peacefully and responsibly. Ikale Ignatius, Inspector General at the North West Governor’s Office, presided over the event. Also, present were Stephen Ujambeng Andong, CPDM Section President for Momo West IV (Widikum); Ivo Chia Mungwa, Divisional Officer for Widikum Sub-division; as well as religious and traditional authorities.
