The Secretary General of the Central Committee Jean Nkuété has urged voters in the North West region to back the incumbent’s message of “Greatness and Hope.”
The rally at Bamenda’s Commercial Avenue Grandstand drew hundreds of militants and sympathisers. Nkuété, who also chairs the CPDM National Campaign Commission, told the crowd that Biya’s next seven-year mandate would relaunch key development projects suspended by insecurity during the region’s nine-year crisis. “Hope is at the centre of our campaign. It means peace returning to the North West and South West and the revival of economic activity,” Nkuété said, calling on supporters to turn out massively on October 12.
He reminded militants that “greatness and hope” have been the guiding principles of Biya’s leadership, adding that prosperity comes only to those who “work for the State.” Nkuété also paid tribute to late North West leaders such as John Ngu Foncha and Solomon Tandeng Muna, whom he described as patriots who pursued national unity and development.
The CPDM scribe congratulated former Prime Minister Philemon Yang, now head of the regional campaign team, for his tenure as President of the United Nations General Assembly, and urged campaign workers to maintain discipline and momentum.
Taking the floor, Yang said communal campaigns had already been launched across Mezam Division and surrounding districts including Ndop, Wum, Mbengwi, Tubah and Santa. He pledged that remaining areas would be covered in the coming days and that militants were “determined and ready to deliver victory for the CPDM.”
The rally ended with a gesture of support from businessman Jules François Famarwa, a long-time CPDM ally, who donated a 60-seater bus to the University of Bamenda. Handing the keys to Vice-Chancellor Prof Theresia Nkuo Akenji, Famarwa said the vehicle would ease student transport during fieldwork and official ceremonies.
Party organisers said the event underscored renewed confidence in the region, where Biya’s supporters are campaigning to secure “100 percent support” for his re-election bid.
