Mobilization is rife amongst Oshie women resident in Yaounde, prior to the 2026 day of the woman.
They plan to give this year’s celebration of the International Day of the Woman a special touch particularly with regards to the theme of this year; Rights. Justice. Action. For All Women and Girls.
Under the umbrella of the Oshie Development Association (OCA) Yaounde branch, these women have as a strategy planned to use March 8 2026 to showcase their potentials as responsible women who are actively involved in the growth and development process of the nation Cameroon.
The 2026 International Day of the woman will be celebrated this year in a context where violence against the woman continues to show its ugly head and this time at an alarming proportion.
Recent events that have led to the deaths of women namely the case of a woman in the Nkolbison neighborhood in Yaounde where a woman killed her three kids plus herself due to a family misunderstanding, the dead body of a woman found in a well at Nkoabang and a lot more are pointers that more is yet to be done to protect the woman and the girl child in our society.
These and more are topics that the Oshie women will duel on to educate themselves for better. These women will spotlight on, and educate themselves and their community on the benefits and virtues of being responsible women both at home and in the society.
Some of their activities include women empowerment, growth and development and training themselves on petty trades.
Powerfully led by their President Mrs. Brighter Adaibum, the women not only plan to make merry on this special occasion but to enhance growth by creating significant impact as women. They have been organizing and taking part in educative talk shows, yielding themselves to learn by inviting experts to train them in different domains to improve on themselves.
In the build up to D-day March 8 which falls on the same day as the OCA Yaounde branch Meeting day, the women have invited every Oshie person resident in Yaounde to join them at the Oshie Cultural hall in Mendong as from 4:00pm and enjoy an undisclosed, but rich package spiced by the Oshie cultural cuisine, dances and more.
