In a meeting hosted by Senator Enwe Francis on 11 July, elite of Bussam village in Widikum Subdivision in the North West agreed that reconciliation and peace are requisite for development.
The common objective of the historic meeting was to strengthen social cohesion, foster reconciliation amongst community members and chart a new course for the sustainable development of their village. It was a true moment of frank talk where members voiced their disgruntlements and, in a bid, to settle differences for a brighter future together.
In the words of Senator Enwe, “There is no need for the fights. Let’s work together as a team. No one is all knowing, together we can build a stronger community by giving every one the opportunity to contribute. Every opinion count, and like the saying goes; united we stand and divided we fall”, he said.
One of the highlights was the official launch of the uniform by the Women’s wing of the Bussam Cultural and Development Association (BUCUDA). The colorful unveiling signified the women’s renewed commitment to unity, cultural identity and active participation in community development. The women got to this point through the efforts of Gladys Enwe who pleaded their cause with the Senator.
The women have requested that support be given them to acquire land, build a structure where they can carry out their activities in Yaounde. They have also made a passionate appeal for the establishment of a Women’s Empowerment Centre in Widikum. According to the women’s leader, “The Empowerment Centre will equip the rural woman and the girl child with vocational and entrepreneurial skills; promote self-reliance and improve livelihoods through training and capacity building”.
Senator Enwe requested that more of such meetings be held in all the regions so as to identify and fish out talented elite to join the growth vision. The next meeting will take place in Douala on a date to be announced.
