Voter Registration : Eligible voters in Widikum called to get on board

CPDM Militants in the Momo V Section -Widikum have been reminded that as they cheer the Indomitable Lions to victory in the ongoing Afcon, those of voting age should get registered.

The call was made recently by the Section President Akwa Stephen Tambu in a message in which he reminded militants not to lose sight that their civic responsibility Voter registers are opened in Cameroon every January and close in August. In the words of the section president “Persons of voting age can have their names enlisted in any Eelecam branch office, the exercise is in accordance with Section 74 (2) of the Electoral Code”, he said. Elections Cameroon (Elecam) according to legal dispositions commenced registration of potential electors on their electoral lists on January 1. The registration process is in accordance with provisions of the Electoral Code in its Section 74 which states that electoral registers shall be permanent and shall be revised every year throughout the national territory. This annual revision of the electoral registers seeks to bring in new voters, especially youths.
Youths in Widikum were particularly called to mobilize their peers to get the necessary tools required such as their birth certificates and valid identity cards in order to be registered.
According to Beltha Taba, WCPDM Section President for Momo V, “We are putting all hands on deck in mobilizing our women to register. This is our way to get them ready for any eventual voting exercise” she said.
In a recent outing, the Director General of Elections at Elecam, Erik Essousse, told Cameroon Tribune that the official launch of the voters’ registration exercise for 2022 was to take place on January 6. An opportunity Akwa hinged on to encourage eligible voters in his section to use as a strategy to get the maximum number of electors registered in Widikum.
The exercise is still on and till the 31st of August, they plan to use the different communication platforms available, ear to mouth and door to door strategies to get the maximum number of potential voters registered on the voter lists
This will enable them to stand for any election from a numerically vantage point.
