National Development Strategy : Alamine Ousmane Mey Presents Document

The Minister of Economy, Planning and Regional Development said its implementation would give the awaited results.

The special plenary session last November 13, 2021 chaired by Hon. Hilarion Etong, first Vice President of the august Chamber was an opportunity for government to once more present to MPs the National Development Strategy. In his address, Hon. Etong said tailoring the plan to benefit the average Cameroonian and guarding against poor governance are essential in the attainment of objectives in the drive towards Cameroon’s emergence. Hinged on four pillars, the first is the structural transformation of the country’s economy. The second is promoting human capital and the wellbeing of the population. The third is about employment, social economic insertion and the last pillar bears on decentralisation and strategic management of the state.
The NDS30, the Minister said earmarks key structural projects over the coming years.
To Minister Alamine Mey, “the President of the Republic Paul Biya mentioned in his inaugural speech on November 6, 2018 that emergence should become our national concern. Having elaborated the document it was important to come again to present the four pillars of the strategy. We believe that through this participative approach, we have a robust roadmap to move towards becoming an emergent economy by 2035.”
The strategy that covers the period of 2020 to 2030 and draws lessons of the GESP focuses on structural transformation of the economy and inclusive development.
Various MPs, 18 in number took turns to voice their concerns regarding the paper and be witnessed some growth in the past years, it should be said that several objectives were not attained.
Meanwhile, Minister Alamine promised that the conversation would continue with different stakeholders such that appropriation, ownership is really established. To him, the implementation of the strategy “will certainly give us the awaited results. This is the wish of the population,” he said.
