Few days to the kick off of the now annual holiday sport championship in the Mefou and Akono South West Section, CPDM militants, sympathizers and the population at large are very expectant.

The third edition of the holiday Championship program, brainchild of Daniel Hippolyte Bickoe, CPDM section president for the Mefou and Akono south west section will officially kick off on 23 July and will run till 26 August. Dubbed the “Peace and Unity championship”, this exercise aims at bringing together the youth, with the aim of highlighting their potentials and also to give them an opportunity to express their talents.
The promoter, Daniel Bickoe in his usual quest to implement laid down rules of the CPDM party as per the party’s basic texts is by the championship program carrying out one of the missions of the party which is the animation of the basic organs. According to him, “it is within the frame work of the animation of the party that we have taken the habit to cause our section which consists of thirty-six (36) villages to vibrate to the rhythm of socio cultural activities with emphases on sports”, he said.
The sport activity of this championship which brings together teams from the thirteen subsection that make up the section plus corporations such as the bike riders corporation consists mainly of football. Asked why only one sport discipline, the section president said, “Football is said to be the king sport, it is the sport that mobilizes the most. The CPDM party is a party of the masses, and not an elitist party. We want to assemble more militants, sympathizers and citizens as possible hence promote the spirit of solidarity and a harmonious spirit of living together as prescribed by our National president Paul Biya, and the best sport offer to reach everybody is football”, he insisted.
As the countdown to this great event narrows therefore, teams from the thirteen sub sections are said to doing their last preparations. This is also a unique opportunity for local party authorities in Akono to keep the party’s flame of unity, peace and acceptability burning.
