Akono : Peace and Unity Tournament Kicks Off

Prof. Marie Therese Abena Ondoa, Head of the permanent divisional delegation of the Central Committee graced the opening game of the holiday tourney alongside traditional authorities and the elite last 30 July 2023.

The annual youth come together; now in its third edition will run till August 27. It is organized by Daniel Hippolyte Bickoe, section president for the Mefou and Akono South West section within the frame work of the animation of the party at the base.
Youths of the CPDM from all thirteen (13) subsections turned out in their numbers to give the occasion its grandeur. In a welcome speech, Mayor Ondoa Efalla thanked everyone for coming. “This is a unique opportunity being offered us by our section president to vibrate in celebration with the youth through sports”, he said.
He also encouraged stake holders in the section to take advantage of any given opportunity to inculcate tangible and lasting values in the youth. “This will enhance growth and development”, he emphasized.
For his part, the section president welcomed all present especially, the ever-supportive Senior Divisional Officer for Akono, the Sub Divisional Officer, the Mayor, Prof. Marie Therese Abena Ondoa, Minister and Head of the permanent divisional delegation, Gaston Eloundou Esomba, Minister of Water and Energy and everyone else for their respective efforts and support for the success of the event.
“Sports is the best channel through -which to engage the youth. It serves for the animation of the party at the base as prescribed by the party’s basic texts. Sixteen (16) teams will be taking part, in this edition; thirteen from our thirteen sub sections, that is Akono 1 to 13, and a team from the YCPDM section”, Daniel Bickoe elaborated.
In this Peace and Unity Championship a totally new team comprising the Bamilekes, Anglohones, Bassas and people from the North was brought in from Yaounde. It goes by the name Vision Foot Academy.
According to the section president, Daniel H. Bickoe “by bringing in this new team, we plan to highlight and celebrate the spirit of Living together and fraternity. This will go a long way to concretize CPDM’s quest for Peace and unity in Akono”, he said. The opening match opposed the new tam, Vision Foot Academy to the YCPDM team and ended on a one goal to zero score in favor of the YCPDM team.
