final journey : Biya Knights Fru Ndi

Jean Nkuété, Vice Prime Minister and Secretary General of the CPDM Central Committee who represented the President of the Republic at the official funeral ceremony of John Fru Ndi conferred on the late statesman the Grand Cordon of the Cameroon Order of Merit.

John Fru Ndi, former leader of the main opposition party in Cameroon now rests in his native Baba II village in Mezam Division of the North West. He is remembered nationally as the only challenger who has ever come close to victory against President Paul Biya at Presidential election in 1992 and the one who fought fiercely for the rebirth of multi-party politics in the country.


A former militant of the CPDM after a failed attempt to run for Parliamentary election in 1988, Fru Ndi is on record as a Cameroonian politician whose position remained unadulterated, fighting for justice, peace in a unified Cameroon. He distinguished himself as one who prioritized state interest over his personal yearns which at death has earned him greatest recognition of the land.


Accompanied by the nation as decreed by President Biya, according the late Chairman an official funeral ceremony to his final place of rest, it was a ceremony marked by military displays, speeches and an overwhelming presence of state officials plus politicians across the board.
Despite calls for lockdown by separatist leaders, there was a massive turnout at the Bamenda Commercial Avenue Grandstand and on the streets of Bamenda by the population to bid their brother, father and grandfather a final farewell.
CPDM Ably Represented
On the instruction of the Secretary General of the Central Committee of the CPDM, Jean Nkuete, a top-powered delegation of the party accompanied late Fru Ndi from the coffining at the Yaoundé General Hospital mortuary to the place of interment in his native Baba II Village in Santa Subdivision of the North West Region.
Headed by former Prime Minister, Philemon Yang who is the head of CPDM Permanent Delegation to the Central Committee for the North West, the team that represented the ruling party was wide and inclusive. Other members of the delegation included: Elvis Ngolle Ngolle, National Coordinator of the CPDM Academy; Minister Ngalle Bibehe Jean Ernest, head of CPDM Permanent Delegation for Sanaga-Maritime; Minister Emmanuel Nganou Djoumessi, head of Permanent Divisional Delegation for Bamboutos; Minster Mbah Rose Acha, Momo Divisional Permanent Delegation head; Mbah Shupong Michael, Mezam II [Santa] Section President. Dr Nwana Bernard and Okie Johnson – Charges des missions were also part of the CPDM team.
