LEBIALEM : Celebrations in Alou, Wabane Subdivisions

Despite security challenges and threats from separatists, youths and elites of the two subdivisions turned out massively to celebrate the 56th edition of the national youth day.

This year’s national youth day celebration in Lebialem Division, of the South West Region, witnessed a tremendous turnout with CPDM youths of Lebialem II section, Alou and Lebialem III, Wabane, taking the lead. It was the first of its kind since the eruption of the socio-political conflict in the two English speaking regions of the country.
CPDM youths and others of the two subdivisions did not only brave all odds and shun fear, but equally exhibited patriotism and love for their fatherland through the singing of the national anthem, brandishing the national flag as well as showcasing talents. The massive mobilisation in the two sections, was thanks to the dynamism of the YCPDM section presidents, Collins Chomoh and Oliver Lekunze of Alou and Wabane respectively. Their soft approach and down to earth nature helped to pull the crowd of youths, who see in them a spirit of leadership. The CPDM section presidents of Alou and Wabane equally played an instrumental role in the mobilisation of the population. Chief Dominic Fotsop Asaah, of Alou and Mayor Israel Nembo Ketu, acted as driving forces to push the youths into seizing their own destinies into their hands. The Divisional officers of the two sub Divisions, as well as the mayors all played an instrumental role in the success of the 56th edition of the national youth day in Lebialem.
The massive turnout and the hours spent in the celebration, is clear justification that peace has returned to a greater part of Lebialem Division. It is also an indication that the message of the Head of State to the youths fell on a fertile soil, with the youths of Lebialem being very eager and ready to embrace peace.
Cultural display, march pass, singing competition, and football match were among the numerous activities that spiced the celebration.
The celebration of this year’s national youth day in Lebialem has come to clear the air as to the security situation in the Division. Many have seen and believed that there is a high degree of peace and stability in the Division, contrary to social media reports that the entire Division has been grounded.
