Nomination of Candidates for Senatorial Elections :When Active Militancy is a Prerequisite

Proof of services rendered to the growth of the CPDM is amongst conditions for candidates seeking nomination for the senatorial elections under the party’s ticket.

Who is an active militant? The question may seem banal but according to explanations given by the Secretary for Political Training, also Adviser Prof. Paul Célestin Ndembiyembe, it is one who has undertaken concrete actions to ensure the smooth functioning of the Party at the grassroots. One who constantly and intellectually defends the ideologies and interests of the CPDM. One who is regular in paying required dues because it is essential for the running of the party at the base. Without waiting for events that mark the life of the Party and nation, he rises up to the challenge when there is a situation . These qualities of a good militant and more were highlighted during the meeting to launch the selection exercise for CPDM candidates for the March 12 senatorial elections. Chaired by Jean Nkuété, Secretary General of the Central Committee and President of the National Commission for the nomination of candidates for the senatorial elections, last 20 January 2023 meeting at the Yaounde Conference Centre brought together members of the said commission, members of the Technical Secretariat as well as presidents, vice presidents, members and chargé des missions of Regional Commissions amongst others.
In keeping with tradition during such electoral stakes, Jean Nkuété saw the need to elucidate his comrades who would be scrutinizing the files of candidates nominated by the party, to ensure that directives contained in the application circular are respected to the latter. He was aided in the exercise by Jean Fabien Monkam and Paul Célestin Ndembiyembe, who took turns to buttress the point that CPDM had to file in candidates who are worth the salt. And so it was stressed that candidates had to be disciplined militants and of remarkable conduct. Being of good morality, Prof. Ndembiyenbe emphasized meant one who does not soil the image of the CPDM.
Jean Nkuété cautioned members of the various commissions to lookout for traps set by the opposition by being meticulous with the work they are called to do – scrutinizing the files of each candidate, making sure that all required documents needed at Elecam are duly authenticated. With CPDM’s main objective being to have the best candidates at the Senate, the die was thus cast for the teams on the field to live up to the task assigned them.
