Boosting Voter Registration : Circular Partitions Tasks

The Secretary General of the Central Committee of the CPDM, Jean Nkuété, has signed a circular related to the revision of electoral registers as the elections management body ELECAM opened registers on January 4, 2024.

The registers will close in August, and Jean Nkuété wants the CPDM party to register a chunk of its militants and sympathizers against future elections – parliamentary, municipal and presidential elections. In effect, that is the essence of the circular signed on January 10, 2024 wherein the scribe said the revision of the electoral registers is one of the “flagship activities of the party’s action programme for the current year [2024]”
At the Section
The first action expected from the authorities of the section is the holding of meetings to explain the circular to all the executives from the section down to the cell. For the success of the exercise, the party officials at the grassroots have been assigned some homework. The officials are expected to create a synergy with the local offices of ELECAM. For example, a good relationship with the officials of ELECAM will enable the CPDM convey them to congregations of the party’s supporters. Local sports tournament, for example, that are organised by the CPDM members tend to be areas where voters can be registered.
The section executive is expected to work out a plan on how the process will be carried out. This in collaboration with the sub section executives. Such a work plan will have details such as dates, places, time, and maybe details related to logistics.
One key area is having party representatives in the local committees set up to revise electoral registers. If the CPDM has remained strong at all elections, it is because the party does not joke with details that have a bearing on the outcome of results. True to itself, the CPDM intends to field, where required, representatives of the party.
Above the section, the permanent divisional, regional delegations have been assigned the monitoring role besides the responsibility to help the sections succeed in the outlined tasks by making available all documents from ELECAM to the sections. These delegations must have a compendium of all documents related to the final list of CPDM voters that have been registered on the ELECAM’s list.
From the section down to the cells, party officials should at the end of the day, have all militants and sympathizers of the CPDM, registered. This is pertinent, because the number of party officials will swell the number of CPDM voters.
Also, at the local level, the authorities here must ensure that former voters are on the list, and that all potential voters duly collect their cards.
Hierarchy expect to have a detailed reporting on the process, at least once in six months, and could make field trips to evaluate the situation of the revision of the electoral registers.
